We’ve asked for another rmeeting about our son’s IEP/IFSP, largely over speech goals. He’s 2, and has a trach, so he’s severely delayed with expressive speech, and we’re arguing about how delayed he really is for receptive (my 2 year old can go get a red ball out of the ball pit when asked; I think he’s better than the 9 month level he’s tested at). None of the goals are things like, “will sign for X number of things in daily life around the house” – nothing vocabulary related, or even really functional. The best they could do was “will greet people” and “will follow phsyical directions like sit/stand/jump” – and those physical ones are a bad match anyway, because he’s got some gross motor skill delays.
So, in a nutshell: anyone willing to share the goals on their IEPs? Any ideas on what makes a good speech goal when you’re working on basic communication?
